Fathom positions itself as an AI notetaker that eliminates the need to take notes during video meetings. It joins calls on Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams, then produces transcripts, summaries, and action items. The company claims users save 38 minutes per meeting on average, and after testing it on a few sales calls, that number feels realistic. The transcript accuracy is noticeably better than some alternatives I've tried, and the Ask Fathom feature — which lets you search across past meetings — is genuinely useful for surfacing specific details from old calls.

The tool serves a broad audience, from individual contributors who just want meeting notes emailed to them, to sales teams that need CRM sync with Salesforce or HubSpot. The free plan is surprisingly generous: unlimited meetings, unlimited notes, and no time limits. Paid plans start at $29 per seat per month and add team analytics, admin controls, and those CRM integrations. For most small to mid-sized teams, the free plan is probably sufficient.

That said, Fathom isn't perfect. The onboarding process feels a bit rushed — you have to manually connect your calendar after signing up, which is an extra step that could be smoother. There's also no native mobile app yet, so you're stuck with the web app on your phone. And while the transcripts are good, summaries can occasionally miss nuance when multiple people talk over each other. Still, for a tool that's free to start and does the core job well, Fathom is a solid pick for anyone tired of taking meeting notes.
