Un neurone est une cellule spécialisée qui transmet des impulsions nerveuses dans le système nerveux.

A neuron is a fundamental unit of the nervous system, responsible for transmitting information throughout the body via electrical and chemical signals. Neurons are specialized cells that consist of three main parts: the cell body (soma), dendrites, and an axon.

La corps cellulaire contains the nucleus and organelles, which support the neuron’s metabolic activities. Dendrites are branching extensions that receive signals from other neurons and convey this information to the cell body. The axon is a long, thin projection that transmits electrical impulses away from the cell body to other neurons, muscles, or glands.

Neurons communicate through a process known as synaptic transmission. When an electrical impulse (action potential) travels down the axon, it triggers the release of neurotransmitters at the synapse, the gap between two neurons. These neurotransmitters bind to receptors on the dendrites of the receiving neuron, facilitating the transmission of the signal.

Il existe différents types de neurones, y compris neurones sensoriels that carry information from sensory receptors to the central nervous system, neurones moteurs that transmit signals from the central nervous system to muscles, and interneurons that connect neurons within the central nervous system. Neurons work together to form complex réseaux neuronaux that underlie all brain functions, including thought, emotion, and movement.
