Qu'est-ce qu'un Pika ?
Le pika est un petit mammifère herbivore appartenant à la famille des Ochotonidae. Ces créatures sont souvent confondues avec des rongeurs, mais sont plus étroitement liées aux lapins et aux lièvres. Les pikas se trouvent généralement dans les zones rocheuses des montagnes à travers l'Amérique du Nord et certaines parties de l'Asie, en particulier dans les environnements alpins et subalpins.
Pikas are characterized by their short limbs, rounded ears, and lack of a visible tail. They have thick fur that helps them survive in cold climates, and their size varies from about 15 to 30 centimeters in length. One of the most notable aspects of pikas is their high-pitched calls, which they use for communication, particularly during mating seasons and to warn others of potential predators.
Ces animals are also known for their behavior of collecting and storing food. Pikas gather a variety of plant materials, such as grasses and herbs, and create ‘haypiles’ to sustain themselves through harsh winters when food is scarce.
